Statement necklace with an Ammonite set in a sterling silver bezel, natural coral and mixed size pearls

The centre piece of this statement necklace is a genuine  Moroccan ammonite set in a Sterling Silver bezel . Ammonites are one of the most popular and beautiful fossils on earth and are  the fossilised remains of a range of ancient marine creatures.  The earliest evidence for these creatures goes back 252 million years and they  died  out  66 million years ago. They had distinctive multi chambered shells,  the pattern of which can be seen in the polished half of an ammonite seen in this necklace. 

In keeping with the marine theme this statement piece also  includes some responsibly sourced beautiful natural coral  from Sardinia, as well as cultured pearls. The white pearls in the design are varied sizes and shapes and for part of the design there are two strands of differently sized and shaped pearls side by side;  both oval and baroque pearls are counterposed.

These pearls are cultured meaning that they are created by pearl farmers under controlled conditions working with pearl oysters or freshwater mussels.  They are still considered  to be genuine  pearls despite the fact that there is human intervention in their creation.

This necklace is asymmetrical, with the bezelled ammonite to the left and the two strands of pearl with coral elements balancing the design to the right finished with a large faceted round smokey quartz. 

A really bold piece which will suit if you are looking for something which is  unusual and with added interest whilst remaining sophisticated. I loved the  design process for this necklace and found making it challenging but enjoyable. 

The necklace is 18.5" (46cms) and is finished with a sterling silver clasp.
